Jean-Michel Frank
The Strange and Subtle Luxury
September 12-20, 2006
On the occasion of the publication of the book "The strange luxury of nothing" by Pierre-Emmanuel Martin-Vivier, Editions Norma, the Gallery Anne-Sophie Duval presented a selection of furniture and rare objects of Jean-Michel Frank. The iconic Art Deco designer has succeeded in reinterpreting the neoclassicism with subtlety. Frank's career was characterized by collaborations with other gifted designers and artists, most notably Adolphe Chanaux, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Christian Bérard, and Emilio Terry.
His pure style is emerging through the skilful combination of the simplest forms and the natural materials, such as parchment, shagreen, plaster, straw and Hermes leather.
