Galerie Anne Sophie Duval presented, in collaboration with Galerie Mouvements Modernes, a selection of ceramics created by eight French women pottery artists just in the aftermath of WWII.
Most XXth Century ceramics lovers may already be familiar with Guidette Carbonell's «luminous birds», Elisabeth Joulia's sandstones, Denise Gatard's smooth and airy forms, Jacqueline Lerat's gracious figurines, Mado Jolain's mechanical inspiration, Valentine Schlegel's sensual shapes, Suzanne Ramié with Madoura's archetypal references, and the primitive eloquence of Vera Szekely's work.
Most of them trained in Fine Arts before settling in potter workshops, mastering «The Arts of Fire». Sharing a common desire and determination to transform earth into new forms, those artists challenged the tradition transmitted by elders.
