Pol Chambost
(1906-1983)

Born in 1906, Pol Chambost studied in the Ecole des Arts Appliqués, in Paris, and started his career by following the traces of his father and becoming a marble sculptor. Some years later, he discovered ceramic that he used at first in the familial marble works and then for his own pieces. He became passionate by this art and opened his own workshop. During his long career, between the 1930’s and the 1980’s, he met with success not only in France but also in the United-States. He collaborated with great names in decoration such as Jean Royère or Primavera. At the same time sculptor, ceramicist and designer, Pol Chambost defended the polyvalence of technical skills because, according to him, « there is no art without skill » as he declared during a conference on ceramic in Villamblard in 1962.
